Grief and Loss Therapy

Grief and loss deeply impact mental health, often bringing intense emotions like sadness, anxiety, and loneliness. While grief is a natural response, prolonged or complicated grief can affect daily functioning and overall well-being. Support and therapy can help process these feelings, promote healing, and restore balance in life. We offer in-person and virtual therapy on Long Island and throughout New York to help you navigate grief and loss.

What does grief look like?

Grief affects both emotions and the body, causing deep sadness, anxiety, anger, and loneliness, along with physical symptoms like fatigue, sleep issues, muscle tension, and changes in appetite. These experiences can come in waves and vary for each person, making compassionate support essential for healing.

Bereavement support groups showed measurable improvements in grief and depression outcomes.

What can I expect from grief counseling sessions?

In grief counseling, you can expect a safe, supportive space to explore your feelings and memories, process your loss, and learn coping strategies. Your therapist will guide you through your unique healing journey, helping you find meaning, build resilience, and gradually adjust to life after loss.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my partner also needs therapy?

We know that families are complex and are here to support each person so that you can support each other.

How would group therapy be helpful?

Our therapist-led groups provide a safe, supportive space to process the emotional and relational impact of infertility, pregnancy loss, and reproductive trauma. Being in a group can help reduce isolation and shame, foster connection with others who truly get it, and help you regulate intense emotions while rebuilding trust in your body and a sense of control. Through psychoeducation, grounding techniques, and shared reflection, you will work toward healing, meaning-making, increasing resilience, and renewed hope. The group can support you in navigating complex experiences like relationship issues, treatment decisions, family building options, or pregnancy at a pace that feels good to you. We have short term groups which have a focus on learning skills to manage the stress, as well as an ongoing weekly group for finding calm, connection, and meaning through the uncertainty of infertility. A space where healing and possibility meet.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Scheduling an appointment is easy. You can schedule an introductory call at 516-442-1116. Let us know how we can help and we will call you as soon as possible- usually the same/next business day.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, we do work with many insurance plans. Our intake coordinators will check your specific insurance plan and let you know how that would cover care at HHP. When using your insurance isn't an option, we are proud to offer a fee structure that aims to make care accessible, while still allowing us to provide high quality care. You can find more information on our Fees and Insurance page.
