Gina McDermott is a Mental Health Counseling Intern currently pursuing her Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) in Mental Health Counseling at Alfred University. She holds a Master’s Degree in School Counseling and a Master’s Degree in Students with Disabilities from Touro College. Gina brings over 20 years of experience supporting students and families as both a school counselor and teacher.

Gina is committed to creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, respected, and understood. She approaches her work through a culturally sensitive, trauma-informed lens, integrating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

Her extensive background in education and counseling provides her with a strong foundation in understanding the academic, social, and emotional challenges that individuals and families may face. Gina draws on this experience to effectively support families, including guiding parents as they navigate the unique needs of neurodiverse children with compassion, practical strategies, and advocacy.

Using a strengths-based approach, Gina works collaboratively with clients to identify and build upon their existing skills and resilience. With a warm and empathetic style, she empowers individuals to explore their experiences, gain insight, and develop practical tools to navigate challenges and enhance overall well-being.
