Pauline (00:07.216)

Hello and welcome back. I'm Pauline Walfisch and I am here with my fun and faithful and very cheeky co-host, Megan Nelson.

Megan (00:18.367)

Hi everybody! We are here today as just a little look back to talk about what we've our episodes that we've done.

Pauline (00:27.844)

Yeah, and there's nobody else here in the room, so we get to just be ourselves and share with you some of our insights about some of our favorite episodes from the past few months. Although it was really hard to narrow it down, we might have to do a couple of these. But before we get started, actually, Megan, I think you have an announcement to make. So let me just

Megan (00:45.781)

Yeah. Yeah.

Pauline (00:59.928)

Cue up the drum roll.

Megan (01:02.525)

We have been doing our podcast for six months now.

Pauline (01:08.804)

Whew how many was that, Megan?

Six months. wait, wait, I d I do think I hear our fans.

Megan (01:13.441)

Six months.

Pauline (01:23.44)

That is so exciting.

Megan (01:26.295)

That was like a standing ovation, right? Yeah. I just went to see show I saw ragtime last night and I think our standing ovation was longer than theirs, so you know.

Pauline (01:30.544)

I mean, yeah, I think so. I c I can see them. Can you?

Pauline (01:44.828)

I mean y you are the funnest and cheekest. And wearing a handmade dress, because who the hell are you?

Megan (01:47.488)

Okay.

Alright, all right. I mean I didn't make it recently, but yeah. I did. I dabble in I don't know, making stuff for fun. Yeah. But one of the great things about making things is that you have to fail a lot while trying to do it well. So that's one of the reasons I like it. Because it's like a safe failure. It's like a low

Pauline (01:54.882)

okay.

Pauline (02:01.615)

All things creative.

Pauline (02:14.201)

Yep. Yeah, not being afraid to fail. Sort of like us.

Megan (02:20.087)

Ha ha ha

Megan (02:25.289)

still here whether you like

Pauline (02:26.339)

We're still here going strong, at least in in our minds. We are we are I actually think we're doing a really great job.

Megan (02:38.067)

Yeah, well I love we're doing what we set out to do, which is have a space, create a space where we can talk about these things with other people who know a lot about it, experienced it, want to talk about it. And the one thing that I think is surprising to me is how many people want and are willing to talk about it. And

Pauline (03:06.277)

Yeah.

Megan (03:07.199)

Like it hasn't been hard for us to find people to to.

Pauline (03:12.717)

No, and there's so much to say.

Megan (03:15.179)

There's so much to say.

Pauline (03:17.401)

And I have to say, like, I've said it before on other podcasts, like, I love being a therapist. Like, I really, really, really love my job. This is so much fun. And the fact that like we're not therapists here, like. So like we have our therapist knowledge, but we're not in the role of a therapist, which also means like we're not limited to like confidentiality.

in this room so like I can ask questions and and people can share their story where like in the room they they get to share their story with us but like it stops there and we're we are very ethical therapists so like what people say to us in the office like is vaulted but here we have people who are not our patients who are not in a patient therapist relationship with us who are

Willing to share their story in a way that other people can hear and relate to. And like that's the most exciting thing to for me because we've said it before, like in our room we're like, I wish client B could hear client A say this, right? And like we can't make that happen. And so we do in group when when we're lucky enough to have a group of people together. But that's

Megan (04:25.042)

Yeah.

Pauline (04:36.953)

Small numbers, so this is exciting 'cause we get to like be like, No, no, say it again. Say again how hard this was for you.

Megan (04:46.666)

You know what's funny is you say like we're therapist, but we're in therapy, we're using our therapist brain and here we get to do something else. I did have someone tell me th that when I was in my therapist role, they're like, you know, you really have podcast energy they do after that 'cause

Pauline (05:06.565)

Did they know you had a podcast?

Pauline (05:12.633)

Yeah, I mean of course you do. That's how you wound up here.

Megan (05:15.55)

Well I was like, well, okay, to be honest, you know, which I don't normally tell any clients that I have a podcast because I do share more than I would share n in a session with about, you know, my being a mom, you know, like

Pauline (05:32.515)

you don't share anything that you are not comfortable with people knowing if they choose to know.

Megan (05:35.819)

Yeah. A hundred percent. A hundred percent. If they found the information, absolutely fine with them knowing. But one of the things about being a therapist is it's in service of the client. It's not always

helpful for my clients to know I have children or that XYZ. I mean, sometimes it would be, but like, I don't necessarily want I wouldn't it would it would be about me if I'm sitting there saying like, well, you know, when I had a kid, dot dot dot, you know. So yeah.

Pauline (06:09.007)

Yeah, yeah. I mean it might be great to do an episode on like self-disclosure as therapists because we put so much thought behind it and our clients maybe do, maybe don't. Like some of them are just like, Well, I don't I don't understand. Why can't you tell me if you're a mom? And we're like, Well, we wouldn't want you to feel this way or that way, or we wouldn't want you to be influenced, or we wouldn't want you to think that because I am, you should be, right?

Megan (06:18.581)

With the

Megan (06:36.0)

Yeah.

Pauline (06:37.059)

And they're just like, Well, you're just a person. I just wanna know who you are

Megan (06:40.502)

And I think that some of that is valid, right? It's like and I name that as well. I'm like, it's weird, yes, it's weird that you're telling me what might feel like your deepest secrets and like you don't even know anything about me, really. You know, and we name that because yeah, it is weird. So I try to help people know low risk things about me, you know.

Pauline (06:43.824)

Mm-hmm.

Megan (07:08.166)

Even occasionally, like so in this office it's from my home. One time I didn't know my cat was in on the couch sleeping back there. Usually I don't have the cat in there because you know that I didn't know. And my they were like, my gosh, look at your cat! I love your cat. it was so fun for them, and I was like, Okay, here's my cat.

Pauline (07:33.699)

Yeah, it's like in, you know, eighth grade when I saw my teacher at the beach and I was like, they're like an actual person like

Megan (07:39.636)

They're a person. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Pauline (07:43.087)

Yeah. yeah. All of my three o'clock clients that I saw during COVID know my dog because that's the time my mail and they know the time my mail gets delivered. because there was no hiding that, so

Megan (07:53.213)

Yeah.

Megan (08:00.215)

question about this. Do you think it's different because we work with mothers and parents than if we didn't? Like if we didn't specialize in it? Meaning like people ask.

Pauline (08:10.261)

No. No. Because I think like if you said if you were working in substance abuse, you would say like, Well, is it different 'cause we work in substance use?

Megan (08:20.426)

Right, yeah. I really meant the people that are curious about it. Like curious about being us being parents, you know. I could see someone saying like I want my therapist to be a mom because I went through all of this stuff. Yeah.

Pauline (08:24.443)

Mm.

Pauline (08:35.063)

Sure. Yeah. And some people who are in recovery want their therapist to be in recovery so that they can understand what it's like. Or you might want a man because you're a man, or you might want a woman because you're a woman. So like I think no matter what kind of work you're doing, your clients want to feel seen and understood and you know, like you get it. And we have some really wonderful therapists who aren't parents and are

Megan (08:39.648)

Well that's true.

Pauline (09:04.247)

Great perinatal therapists, right? So it's a discussion. And I I I love when people ask. There are some therapists that are like, I hate when people ask me because it can be uncomfortable. I love it. And I always like my canned answer is like I will answer you, but first I want to know why you wanna know. And like there's so much good discussion that comes out of that. And then I always say, like, do you still want me to answer?

Megan (09:05.974)

Yeah.

Megan (09:17.15)

Mm.

Megan (09:26.858)

Mm, that's valid, yeah.

Pauline (09:33.987)

And sometimes they're like, No. And then sometimes they're like, Yes, I still wanna know. And then I and then I will, but I mean, I guess if they were asking me something, I wouldn't. I wouldn't have said that. But usually it's, you know, are you a mom or have you, you know, been through infertility? Do you know what IVF is? How do you know what IVF is? Right? So I d or, you know, do you know anybody who's adopted a kid? Like

I don't lead with that. Like that was a decision I made. That doesn't mean it's right for everybody else. And sometimes people are like, I don't know anybody who's been through adopting a child. And I'm like sitting there, like, yes, you do. Right? But I'm really careful about like when I offer that. So but yeah, but that's like the fun part about this, is that we get to talk about these things and

Megan (10:16.054)

Yeah.

Megan (10:23.178)

Yeah. Well that's

Pauline (10:30.171)

you know. And I I hope like also the people listening are like, therapists are like normal people. Yeah. We're not we're not so scary.

Megan (10:40.128)

Real people, yeah. It's a little bit of the the tea seeing the teacher at the at the beach or the restaurant. Yeah.

Pauline (10:47.619)

Mm-hmm. Yep. I still remember that teacher. I won't name names. but yeah. And and that's funny because my mom was a teacher. And still when I saw my own teacher at the beach, I was like totally taken aback. Never occurred to me like my mom was somebody else's teacher.

Megan (10:50.774)

Yeah.

Megan (10:58.986)

Mm-hmm.

Megan (11:07.944)

My son's teacher last year was retiring and he comes home and he said, My teacher just said that now that we're reti she's retiring, she can go out to restaurants in where we live. And she's like, I can't believe she hasn't been going out to restaurants where we live for twenty years And I'm like, Wow, yeah, that makes sense. I know.

Pauline (11:30.339)

Yeah. Yeah. So so yeah, it's been it's been a lot of fun and we have had some like great I mean there's it was hard picking four to talk about today because we've had so many good episodes in the past six months from like right in the beginning with Ashley and Chana right? Like doulas and postpartum and like

Megan (11:55.338)

Sex while pregnant and yeah.

Pauline (11:56.706)

and parenting special needs kids with Neha Like there were just so many great episodes. and in then the past few months we've we've had some really bangers as Ted Lasso would say.

Megan (12:09.994)

Ha ha ha.

Megan (12:15.344)

gonna say yeah, so we haven't done a look back in a while. So we haven't this one was like one of our middle ones, but real fan fave here is Dani

Pauline (12:32.035)

Yeah, she's a spunky character, that one. I love when she did the imitation of her mom.

Megan (12:35.732)

Yeah. And

Yeah.

Pauline (12:43.511)

I can just imagine her mom energy based on like that that impression. This is gonna be the one

Megan (12:48.35)

Yeah.

Yeah. I keep I love the part with the Chinese fortune. because it holds so much of

that hope and how you're like grasping when you're going through something. for those of you that don't know, in this episode Dani talks about going through a really long process of infertility and IVF and endometriosis. Yeah. Multiple surgeries. And we always say like

Pauline (13:20.579)

Endometriosis and surgery and mm-hmm.

Megan (13:30.908)

We're here to hold the hope so that they can keep going, right? It's whatever to keep that little grain of sand amount of hope in order to keep going, if that is their goal. And like that is that representation. That little Chinese fortune is that representation, that little bit of magic. And it can be difficult because sometimes you try to find it in anything, right?

Pauline (13:56.803)

Yeah. Do you remember what the fortune said?

Megan (14:00.051)

It said in time even an egg can walk. Is that right?

Pauline (14:06.969)

Yeah, even an egg will walk. It was like the day of her transfer, I think, right? Yeah, that's so cool.

Megan (14:11.04)

Yeah.

Yeah. It is so cool because also what like without the context of her life, her experience at the moment, what does that even mean to someone? No somebody else could get the same fortune and be like, that's weird, you know.

Pauline (14:30.203)

I'm gonna eat this egg. It's not walking anywhere.

Megan (14:33.428)

Yeah, yeah. That's really cool.

Pauline (14:36.345)

Yeah. And I love that she had it. She brought it and saved it.

Megan (14:42.452)

And I think the big powerful experience, including her old story, but that the endometriosis part and how she was really tenacious about getting her proper treatment.

Pauline (15:03.663)

Yeah. Trust your knowing.

Megan (15:07.324)

And yet, like so many people don't know about endometriosis. So when other people can hear, this is a thing, maybe I need to ask about it. I think that is just such valuable, valuable, valuable information.

Pauline (15:19.227)

Yeah.

Pauline (15:23.291)

Yeah. And that sometimes, like, I mean, often, like, people just have a sense that something isn't right or that like and and where I think women so often are coded to like ignore that, right? Like you're just being dramatic, you're being hysterical, like

Listen to the doctors. What do you like they know? Like and she was like, no, I I just I just know. Like so trusting your instinct and not being afraid to be the annoying patient, right? Like be the one that keeps going back and saying, no, something's not right.

Megan (16:12.202)

Yeah.

Megan (16:16.034)

And I mean this doesn't apply in this case, but also if someone has a hist long history of anxiety, it's really tough to trust your instincts, you know? And so leaning into like, is this am I feeling this way because of my values, because of what I want, or am I feeling this way because of my fears and like and that's really, really hard to determine. So yeah.

Pauline (16:42.223)

Yeah. But yeah, she was so much fun and like such a great storyteller. yeah, that was definitely one of our top viewed episodes. And so if you haven't watched it, like it's worth it's worth your time.

Megan (17:00.39)

It's it's a it's worth it, yeah. and then the other the next one I loved this episode. First of all because she was in a airstream trailer in the middle of like a campground in California on a year's long I don't know what you call it adventure, I don't know, you know, with her family. And so

Pauline (17:26.157)

Yeah. Not because she had cooler glasses than you.

Megan (17:31.058)

I have those glasses, FYI

But I didn't wear them because she always her signature is heart-shaped glasses and I have two pairs. But A, I do. I don't always wear them because I forget that I'm wearing them. And if you wear heart-shaped glasses, people smile at you. And I would forget that I was wearing them. And I'm like, why are all these people smiling at me? And then I have the scowl on my face, and you can't wear heart-shaped glasses with a scowl on your face. It's just not okay. So

Pauline (17:42.681)

Of course you do, Megan.

Megan (18:04.105)

I have to be really mindful, A, when I wear them, and B, it's her signature. So I was like, you know, I'm gonna let her have that.

Pauline (18:07.941)

That test the hard goal.

Pauline (18:16.416)

When Megan forgets that she's wearing her heart shaped glasses at like

Your podiatrist visit or something, you know?

Megan (18:25.872)

It's so it happens I mean I don't wear them that often as I just said but I I am a little bit of an eccentric dresser and so I'm used to people kind of like looking at what I'm wearing sometimes but it's a different look it's a look and a smile but you're like what is going on here okay

Pauline (18:48.25)

Yeah.

Pauline (18:53.103)

Like, right, I have my glasses on. So okay, so that's not why you love the episode.

Megan (18:55.958)

No, but I do love her glasses on her. I love Erica's episode Birdsong Doulas She's the foun one of the founders of Birdsong Doulas because it my favorite line that she says from it is that you know resources are love language, right? I think that's how she said it right. And it's just

If I can tell any pregnant or you know newly postpartum parent, it's like how can we prepare, how can we prepare, how can we prepare? And

Pauline (19:36.965)

Yeah. Well she says like we have to start centering postpartum, right? That it's not just about the pregnancy. It's not just about the delivery. Like it is the fourth trimester when the baby is outside the body and the mom is postpartum.

Megan (19:58.537)

And I don't know how many times I hear people say like, you know, my partner's gonna take a week off of work or two weeks off of work and we don't really want anyone to come and I wanna be like, Are you sure? Are you sure? Like somehow

Pauline (20:14.491)

Yeah, because we also know how many people are like, I didn't realize how hard this was gonna be.

Or how little I was actually gonna sleep.

Megan (20:29.458)

And how eating would feel like a monumental task.

Pauline (20:33.081)

Or showering.

Megan (20:34.494)

showering. Yeah. Or the I don't know what I'm doing. News flash. Nobody does. I have I know nurses that are like, I take care of babies for a living, and yet in the hospital we have systems and timers and beeps and monitors and we'll feed them on a schedule and they're like this is not the same thing. And I'm like, yeah no it's not.

Pauline (20:38.565)

Yeah.

Pauline (21:03.567)

No, and every baby's different. Every mom is different. But yeah. But really like

Pauline (21:18.105)

You know, I it we we pay so much attention to pregnant women. We we have a baby shower while they're pregnant. We take maternity photo shoots. We go to the doctor every two to four weeks, sometimes once a week, and then you have a major physical trauma, whether the baby came out your vagina or a C-section, and we're like, see you in a few weeks.

I mean you think about it, it's just crazy.

It is crazy.

Megan (21:54.571)

Yeah. And the disconnect between the OB and the pediatrician, like they are not the same types of doctors, but it's kind of like your only tether to this n this new experience. And it's kind of like, who do I go to for help? It's really.

Pauline (22:17.317)

Yeah. I at the risk of derailing, I just have to say you said something about the Obi and the pediatrician. Like I i this this this this world is just backwards. Like in New York, do you know who does circumcisions on boys?

Megan (22:33.942)

The O B, right? Yeah.

Pauline (22:35.023)

The OB! The woman who not woman, I guess it could be a man, but the doctor who is trained in all things vaginas is the one that does the circumcisions on the penis. How does that make sense? In other states, it's the pediatrician. Mm-hmm.

Megan (22:47.274)

Yeah.

Megan (22:52.51)

Really? Why is it that way in New York? Because they're surgeons? Hmm.

Pauline (22:57.035)

I've no clue. Maybe we'll maybe we'll ask Doctor McNally when she comes on our podcast. Yeah.

Megan (23:01.236)

Yeah. Okay. I guess the only thing I can think is 'cause they're trained surgeons, but

Pauline (23:06.137)

Yeah, I guess so. But I I mean I remember being like, Really? You're the one Like, okay.

Megan (23:11.99)

Well, there are other people in New York who do circumcisions and they're rabbis. Yeah.

Pauline (23:15.405)

Sure. Yeah, and and they are not trained surgeons, right? Like Moyles like our everyday Joes and

Rabbis.

Like and th they are not necessarily trained I guess they could be trained surgeons, but they are not necessarily trained surgeons. But yeah. That was always the strangest thing to me. But anyway, I derailed us. Well let's come back.

Megan (23:42.293)

Yeah, no, interesting. I didn't know that. I never thought about it. Let's come back. Okay, Birdsong doula. So Erica. I I her name is Erica, but I can't help but say Birdsong Doula because I just like it.

Yeah. I love her episode. If you know someone who is pregnant, if you know someone who's thinking about becoming pregnant, I just think it's like so full of resources. And her resources were also linked to the episode, which were really cool. yeah.

Pauline (24:12.185)

Yeah.

Yeah, yeah, that was great. And like like yeah, good for anybody who is pregnant, but also like good for the people who know a pregnant person. Like, hey, that's you. Like, you have a role here. You're the hairdresser, you can ask them how they're doing. Right, you're going over to visit the baby for the first time? Like, offer to hold the baby while they go take a nap.

Megan (24:43.946)

this crazy short story. I had a friend

Who had a baby very early. So he was in the NICU two months early. And we were visiting in the NICU back, I think, when you could visit. This is pre-COVID. And her co-worker was there too, who was lovely. But she said, my gosh, you get this early two-month vacation.

And my friend who was having who had just had the baby looks at me and I was like, because I had already had children and I was like, this is not a vacation. But it was like this awareness of I can't believe that that is how it's viewed from some people.

Pauline (25:36.079)

Yeah. Yeah. And like often from really well meaning people who just don't have any contacts because no mom told them that postpartum is really hard.

Megan (25:42.358)

Yeah.

Pauline (25:52.047)

Yeah. So that was a great episode.

Then we change gears a little bit. That was the sound of me changing gears. There's probably a better sound effect.

Megan (26:00.321)

Yeah. Yeah, I don't know. I never drove a manual transmission, so I don't know.

Pauline (26:11.129)

Yeah. But yeah, change gears brought us to our dad.

Megan (26:20.704)

First at our first man. Yeah. And what a great episode that was. That was a surprise for me because I did had not talked to Dave before. I didn't know him. I was trusting your wisdom and insight and yeah. Incredible.

Pauline (26:23.407)

That's right. Yeah.

Pauline (26:41.155)

I mean I obviously like I love Dave, right? He's been in my life forever. and I was surprised by how good it was. Like, we didn't prepare that, we didn't coach him. Like, all of that just came out so organically and it's like everything that we talk about.

Megan (26:50.068)

Mm.

Megan (27:03.722)

Yeah. He was so willing to be vulnerable to. Within didn't overshare, he shared wonderfully, I think, and appropriately and like really, really powerful.

Pauline (27:18.351)

Yeah. What was your favorite thing that he talked about? Because he covered so much.

Megan (27:22.516)

Covered so much

I my favorite thing that he talked about was, and this was the surprise, and we wouldn't have gotten to this except you asked the question you brought it up about the Disney dad performance, and I thought that was gonna be it. And then he said what he really got out of it was that he had developed all these friendships with other dads and that a community of them and that they go out to eat and they it's like so much of what we want for.

really our male loved ones and clients and everything is to have this connection because it is di more difficult re especially after having a family. And him having doing that not because he knew, but because it happened and then he saw how powerful and needed and necessary it was, I thought that was just so beautiful. I loved it.

Pauline (28:05.148)

Yeah. Yeah.

Pauline (28:17.787)

Yeah. I think he said like the best thing that came out of it was something I wasn't expecting. Like I still get choked up about that. Like that was so cool. Were you dying when I asked him to sing?

Megan (28:30.42)

Yes, yes. I know. It's just like what do they call that? embarrassment, but it's like

Can't think of the word. But it's like where you feel that like, I feel like, are you embarrassed? And he wasn't. He was totally fine. But you never know, you know. I was like, how's this gonna go? You know? And then he did. That was cool.

Pauline (28:58.725)

Yeah. I was like and I I didn't tell him I was gonna do that. In fact I probably didn't even know I was gonna do that. It probably just came out spontaneously, as most things do that come out of my mouth. but yeah, I just I love that episode. He was so he was so Dave. And like I love that everybody got to see that and I I hope it really resonated with people.

Megan (29:16.639)

Yeah.

Megan (29:21.878)

And like when he posted on Instagram, people were like, This is the real Dave. He's so great. Like so many comments of people being like, Yeah, this is like what you see is what you get, that he's such a genuine person. And yeah. And then I think my husband made a comment with that was something like, I wonder if other dads are gonna be like, am I supposed to be like this guy?

Pauline (29:35.813)

Yeah, he's he is a

Pauline (29:46.65)

Ooh, sorry out there. Giving you something to yeah, I mean he does he does have some big shoes to fill. And like not everybody can be a Dave. Right? And the way that you dad might be different and that's okay. But we all need community, right? We all need friends and support and nobody should go through this alone.

Megan (30:14.858)

And we all struggle in different ways.

And then we have Nicole on.

Honest honestly Nic Nicole. But now just Nicole Tropiano

Pauline (30:24.475)

Authentic Nicole.

Pauline (30:29.753)

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And she like epitomizes nobody should do this alone. Like she is out there on her platform every day, being her true self. The good, the bad, the ugly. Like, if she's experiencing it, she is sharing it because she feels so strongly that like people need to know it.

Megan (30:39.497)

Mm.

Pauline (30:58.917)

Real life is like

Megan (31:01.566)

Yeah. I think one of the things that I

Sensed from her is like a really beautiful, yes, she is very authentic. Like that's her thing, but also she has a confidence. And the confidence isn't like I'm confident because I n know how to do everything and I'm doing it well. It's like I'm confident that I care, my intentions are good, I'm gonna make mistakes, and so I'm gonna do it anyway. You know? And I l yeah.

Pauline (31:30.159)

Yeah. I'm good enough. Right? Like we tell people all the time, like, you don't have to be great. You just have to be good enough. Right? And she's like totally confident in like this is me. I'm good enough. You don't like me? That's okay. Not everybody's gonna like you. Not everybody's gonna like me. Everybody might like you, Megan. I mean not that lady on the playground that thought you stole her bike.

Megan (31:37.63)

Yeah. Yeah.

Megan (31:53.557)

Are you kidding me? No. No, she didn't. But I think she liked me after I, you know, went and talked to her. I think she liked me better. You know, I it's so funny because I will tell people, including if I see a new client, like I'm not everyone's cup of tea. That's fine. If I'm not your cup of tea, cool, I'll help you find the right one. But

Pauline (32:03.599)

Yeah.

Pauline (32:20.783)

That's right. I tell people all the time. Like, how did this feel? 'Cause I'm not for everybody.

Megan (32:27.38)

Yeah. And it's so funny because somebody then sent me a meme that was like, I'm not everybody's cup of tea Sometimes I'm gasoline and I'm gonna burn this down. I'm like, sometimes I might be a little gasoline. Yeah. Let's burn let's burn.

Pauline (32:37.52)

Ha ha

Pauline (32:44.504)

I don't know, I don't think I've ever seen that.

Megan (32:47.826)

I think in a really like wonderful like I wanna like get in there, let's keep going. Let's not like we're not gonna s let's get rid of all this surface stuff. Let's get in there and blow some shit up and like figure it out. And I'll be here and I'm gonna make sure it's safe while we do it. But I think that's what they meant.

Pauline (33:11.151)

Yeah, yeah, I get that. I get that.

Megan (33:15.688)

And maybe that's a little bit of my impatience that I'm just kinda like, ooh, let's go in and see what happens, you know.

Pauline (33:21.185)

Mm-hmm. Yeah, and I also think that that is, and maybe this is something that you share with Nicole, right? Like not afraid to make a mistake. Right? Like if I say something and I went too far and we have a rupture, like I feel confident that we're gonna be able to repair it.

Megan (33:30.559)

Yeah.

Megan (33:38.718)

Yeah. Yeah.

Pauline (33:40.677)

Right? Like I'm I'm not always gonna get it right. I'm not always gonna be perfect. And so I'm not gonna pretend to always be perfect.

Megan (33:52.287)

That is like one of the things I think I got that from a few places. I think

my parents, especially my mom, being like, try new things. Try we can make that. We can make that's what she'd always say, I'd be like, Mom, can I buy this? She's like, We can make that, you know. That was her thing. And I'd be like, Well, are we? You know, can I just get it? It's at the gap right now. and also like I grew up in the theater and what do you do? You figure it out, you know, and it like only has to look good from 30 feet away. So it's really just like a bunch of people come

together trying to make something look good with like as authentic as they can and that they're using these very limited resources. So it became a really very much like it can't be about perfection. Like we're not getting very far without it with perfection.

Pauline (34:42.487)

No. No. No. And our podcast, Far From Perfection.

Megan (34:49.672)

Mm-hmm. That would have been a good name for it. That would have been a really good name for it.

Pauline (34:52.804)

Mm.

Maybe we should do an episode. on Far From Perfection. But yeah, I mean we ha we started this with like a wing and a prayer, right? Like, let's just try it and see what happens. And you know, we got we had a little kinks, we worked stuff out, we're still figuring out my lighting, like

Megan (34:59.498)

More from Yeah.

Megan (35:17.846)

I'm gonna make you I think I have an idea. I'm gonna make you like a little curtain to go over.

Pauline (35:24.269)

A curtain. Yeah. So for those of you don't know, I have a skylight above me. And so every time I think I've got the lighting right, the clouds move and the lighting changes. but I really like this chair and this background. I probably can move it, but we'll figure it out eventually, maybe by our 12th month.

Megan (35:47.092)

Yeah. Momentum. We should have a goals for month twelve. What we n yeah.

Pauline (35:55.992)

One thousand followers. No, I subscribers. Subscribers. One thousand subscribers, that's our goal for the year.

Megan (35:58.837)

Okay.

Megan (36:06.145)

To YouTube? Is that for YouTube or okay. Okay. Tell your friends.

Pauline (36:10.403)

Yes. Yes. Tell your friends. I mean the things that I've learned as a social worker, who knew? Like, I'm counting subscribers, I'm counting watched hours, I'm counting likes. And all that stuff matters more than people actually realize. Like

Megan (36:25.876)

I'm glad you are.

Megan (36:30.974)

Yeah. And I'm so unmotivated by that and I have I know that that's a problem, but you know it's

Pauline (36:39.845)

Well, I'm only motivated by it because that's our goal, right? Is is to have people get this information. And so the more subscribers, the more people that are listening. And the more people that subscribe, then YouTube or all the powers that be that are called the algorithm push the material out because they're like, this is something people actually care about.

Megan (36:43.956)

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Pauline (37:06.339)

And so the only way that the computer knows that it's something people actually care about is if people click like or comment or subscribe.

Megan (37:18.794)

You saying all of this, do you know what? Like I just realized I think one of the most influential movies is like that ha on my life has been if you build it they will come like Field of Dreams. Cause literally that's all I ever think about this. I'm like, we're gonna build they'll come eventually like just keep going. Just keep going. Yeah. It's like

Pauline (37:39.119)

That's right. So w we can beat Kevin Cosner.

Megan (37:42.474)

Will be Kevin Costner and a little bit of like Dory from Finding Nemo. Like just keep swimming. Like a little bit of a little bit of that. Yeah. Kevin Yeah. Dory Costner. Yeah, okay. I know. Yeah, she is. I love Dory.

Pauline (37:52.463)

Dory Costner.

Pauline (38:00.163)

Yeah, Dory is just Dory. She's like Cher.

Pauline (38:06.093)

Anyway, Megan, congratulations on six months. Here is to six more months and lots of fun, cheeky episodes. And

Megan (38:12.242)

Another six. Yeah.

Megan (38:20.394)

Thanks for going on this journey with me.

Pauline (38:23.439)

Thank you. And I think we have some exciting stuff lined up. So keep an eye out for more exciting things coming and come back next week for our next podcast. See ya.

Megan (38:39.786)

Nice.
