This two-hour professional training provides therapists with an evidence-informed understanding of Mom Brain, the maternal brain, and the cognitive and emotional changes associated with matrescence. Participants will explore the neuroscience of caregiving, including how the brain functions as interconnected networks that adapt during pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenthood. The course challenges common misunderstandings about memory and motherhood (aka "mom brain") taking into account neurobiological and social factors that impact the maternal brain. Participants will gain an evidenced based understanding of how the brain changes during matrescence and how these changes may or may not be related to memory and the ability to cope with the mental load of modern day motherhood. We will also discuss how therapists can integrate this understanding into assessment, psychoeducation, validation, and treatment planning.
