About the event
This 2-hour continuing education training provides an evidence-informed introduction to Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) with a specific focus on postpartum clinical applications. Participants will review the neurobiological and psychological mechanisms of ketamine, models of care (medical vs. psychotherapeutic), and core components of KAP including preparation, medicine session, and integration. The training will highlight how the perinatal period presents unique clinical considerations, including rapid physiological and hormonal shifts, identity transitions, caregiving demands, and increased vulnerability to trauma reactivation. Special attention will be given to postpartum depression, anxiety, and childbirth-related PTSD. Current research on ketamine and esketamine in perinatal populations will be reviewed. Participants will learn how to assess clinical fit and readiness for KAP in postpartum clients, including considerations related to sleep deprivation, support systems, breastfeeding, and medical recovery.
