About the event

Third-party reproduction is a complex and growing field, and in 2023, people are building families in a variety of ways. Mental health professionals may encounter an increasing number of patients building families via assisted reproductive technology (ART) and third-party reproduction. It is particularly important that mental health professionals working in the areas of young adulthood, reproductive and perinatal mental health, and parenting understand the process of third-party reproduction and how to support the people building families in these ways. Included in this area of understanding should be knowledge of the current research that describes these families’ experiences and strengths. This course will introduce mental health professionals to the current landscape of family building via third-party reproduction, and it will also explore how to support patients through these experiences related to ART, donor conception, and surrogacy.

In this training:

1. Identify two new concepts related to conceptualizing modern family building and development that are relevant for mental health practice.

 2. Describe the role of the mental health professional in third-party reproduction psychoeducational consultations and counseling.

 3. Describe three variables related to family structure and function that impact children’s psychosocial development.

This course includes 3 hours of continuing education for $70.
