Presentation Title: Every Mother Counts: Improving Access to Maternal Mental Health Care in Central New York

Presented by: Mary Carlisle is the coordinator of the Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies Maternal Mental Health Program at Hutchings Psychiatric Center in Syracuse, NY. Mary is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has worked for the NYS Office of Mental Health since 2009. During this time, she has worked with clients facing a wide variety of issues including trauma, psychosis, anxiety, depression and other mood disorders. Most recently, Mary has specialized in maternal mental health, helping launch the first state operated maternal mental health clinic in 2018. Mary has received specialty training from Post-Partum Support International and is a certified Circle of Security facilitator with training in parent-child attachment. Mary received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Syracuse University in 2007 and a Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Oswego in 2005. She is married, a mother to four daughters, and lives in Syracuse, NY.

Objectives of Presentation:

1) Define barriers to treatment for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.

2) Identify strategies used by the Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies program to address barriers to treatment in order to increase access to services.

3) Recognize challenges to program implementation and identify possible solutions to mitigate challenges.
