Cara holds a Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Prescott College and a limited permit to practice in New York State. She is certified in Infant Developmental Movement Education (IDME) and Somatic Movement Education (SME) from the School for BodyMind Centering® and she is a Natural Dreamwork practitioner. Cara has completed EMDR trauma therapy training and she is on the road to becoming a certified Perinatal Mental Health Counselor. Before all this, she was a dancer.

Using her extensive somatic training, mindfulness and a trauma-informed approach, Cara supports her clients in connecting with the wisdom of their bodies. She helps individuals and families feel and express emotions, uncover insights, and shift responses in ways that create lasting change. In therapy with Cara, building a trusting relationship comes first. She brings a warm, person-centered approach and intersectional lens to honor each client’s unique lived experiences and cultural background. When people feel stuck in painful patterns, EMDR—a neuroscience-informed therapy—can help heal the wounds of trauma and open the door to living more fully, effectively, and joyfully in the present. Cara also interweaves somatic tools from Polyvagal Theory and IFS Parts Work to enhance the EMDR process.

Her experience with families gives Cara a strong foundation for supporting attachment, bonding, postpartum transitions, and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). She also works with individuals navigating complex PTSD, grief, trauma, adjustment and life transitions, mood issues (depression, anxiety, bipolar) and co-occurring presentations (OCD, ADHD, and personality disorders). In addition, Cara welcomes those seeking support with creative blocks, sexuality, relationships, and personal growth. Cara thrives on working with individuals of diverse backgrounds and ages, including those of marginalized and oppressed identities and strives to create an affirming space where clients can bring their whole selves to be compassionately witnessed without defensiveness or shame.
