About the event

When you think of making a baby- often sex and not courtrooms come to mind.  Yet, many people find themselves navigating legal complexities when it comes to building their families.  This course will take you through the legal history of defining family, and explore current  legal considerations in a

post-Dobbs era.

Step-Parenting, IVF, and LGBTQ family  building considerations will be reviewed.

Learning objectives of the course:

1) Understand the development of the legal definition of family.

2) Identify the roles included in the legal definition of family.

3) Describe the mechanisms through which members of a family can be legally

identified.

4) Identify the legal options for custody and visitation arrangements.

5) Competently support clients through effective communication with legal players.

Overview of the constitutional and state protections and expectations of parents

Explore the nuts and bolts of custody and visitation cases

Outline options for visiting/parenting time and custody
