Course Agenda
9:00 am - 9:15 am: Introduction
- Welcome and overview of the course objectives.
- Brief explanation of professional boundaries, boundary violations, and unequal power relationships.
9:15 am - 10:00 am: Defining Professional Boundaries
- Define what constitutes professional boundaries in various contexts (e.g., healthcare, education, counseling).
- Discuss the importance of maintaining professional boundaries for the well-being of both the practitioner and the client/student.
10:00 am - 10:45 am: Exploring Real-Life Situations
- Present case studies or scenarios that challenge professional boundaries.
- Encourage participants to identify boundary issues and discuss potential ethical dilemmas.
- Facilitate large group discussions to share insights and perspectives.
10:45 am - 11:00 am: Brunch Break
11:00 am - 11:45 am: Ethical Decision Making
- Introduce principles of ethical decision-making in professional settings.
- Discuss strategies for recognizing and addressing boundary violations.
- Engage participants in critical thinking exercises to apply ethical principles to hypothetical scenarios.
11:45 am - 12:15 pm: Examples & Statistics
- Present examples and statistics of boundary violations resulting in disciplinary action.
- Analyze common patterns and factors contributing to boundary violations.
- Facilitate discussions on preventive measures and strategies for maintaining professional boundaries.
12:15 pm - 12:30 pm: Large and Small Group Discussions
- Divide participants into smaller groups to discuss specific scenarios or topics related to professional boundaries.
- Encourage reflection and peer learning through group discussions.
- Reconvene for a brief summary and closing remarks.
