This training examines how parental mental illness shapes the emotional, cognitive, and relational development of children, adolescents, and young adults. Participants will learn strategies to address parent-child dynamics in therapy, facilitate effective communication, and empower clients to establish appropriate boundaries that support their well-being and therapeutic goals. The training emphasizes attachment-informed, cognitive-behavioral, and systems perspectives, with a focus on psychoeducation and practical skills that foster healthier patterns of connection and resilience.
Learning Objectives:
1. Explain to caregivers their role in their child’s therapy and describe the benefits of individual, family, and parent-only sessions.
2. Predict how parent-child dynamics influence client symptom presentation and treatment goals.
